Opening Plenary: Energy Storage - Infrastructure Alternative for a Modern Grid
Building on decades of innovation, the energy storage industry is quickly gaining momentum as new market opportunities open. New applications and capabilities are enhancing competitive markets, and utility procurements are leveraging energy storage to create a more flexible grid that is more cost-effective and resilient.
The utility industry is expected to spend more than $90 billion in 2017 on infrastructure upgrades and grid modernization, a monumental undertaking and capital intensive endeavor. Along with that Congress is discussing significant infrastructure investments as well, which could include a wide range of energy, security, and grid related expansions in the coming years.
Energy storage has a significant role to play in enabling a modern and flexible electric grid – and 2017 marks an immense opportunity for storage to expand its role in grid planning and infrastructure deployment.
A panel of energy executives and diverse stakeholders will then take the stage to discuss the current drivers for storage, and how the industry can capitalize on the significant opportunities for storage ahead.
ESA will also announce its annual scholarship winners as well as the winners of the Brad Roberts Award for Outstanding Industry Achievement by a Member Organization, and the Phil Symons Energy Storage Award, which is bestowed on an individual. View past winners here.
