As utilities, grid operators, and regulators work together to build the next generation electric grid, new strategies for truly integrated resource planning that reward advanced energy technologies are taking shape.

While pumped hydro storage facilities are already prominent on the grid, advanced energy storage systems historically have not played a large role in system planning. Current system planning methodologies and practices are often limited when it comes to efficiently employing energy storage as a dynamic, fast-responding resource that can serve as generation, load, and infrastructure.

This panel session features executives that are shaping how we plan the grid and integrate in new technologies and capabilities. From enhancing IRP and grid planning, to enabling DER’s and advanced energy systems to play a significant role in operations, utilities and developers face both challenges and opportunities.
