Rick Winter, BE(mech) UQ, is COO at UniEnergy Technologies with a focus on product and corporate strategy. Rick has spent 27 years innovating and applying grid storage technologies, ranging from deploying microgrids in Australia’s Torres Strait to managing PG&E’s Storage Technologies Program, and leading product development at five advanced battery companies. Rick led the team to create the world’s first production flow battery in the 1990's and later invented the single loop flow battery (Pat#8039161). He holds 17 US patents and numerous abroad with a further 10 US patents pending. Rick is a founding member of the Electricity Storage Association that was created in 1991 as the Utility Battery Group, twice serving as chairman and 18 years on the board. In 2011, Rick was awarded the Phil Symons award for his “instrumental role in the evolution of storage technologies in both the utility and battery manufacturing industries”.
